Driving Licence Requirements

The driving licence requirements in Cyprus state that you must have a full driving licence valid in your country of residence. You also must have an international driver’s licence.

Age Restrictions

To drive a car in Cyprus, you have to be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your driver’s licence for three years. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. There is a maximum age limit when booking a car hire in Paphos and the other destinations in Cyprus.

Road Rules and Petrol Stations

General Cyprus driving information, laws, rules and regulations:

  • Driving in Cyprus is done on the left-hand side of the road.

  • Seat belts are mandatory when driving a hire car in Cyprus.

  • Speed limit signs are in Kilometers Per Hour (Kph)

  • Information signs are in Greek and English

  • Highways have maximum speed limit of 100kph and a minimum speed limit of 6okph.

  • The use of a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with the exception of a hands-free system.

  • Drivers are to carry a valid driver’s licence, registration documents and insurance documents at all times while driving.

  • Headlights need to be used half an hour before sunset and half an hour before sunrise.

  • Note that ALL petrol stations in Polis are closed (i.e. not manned) on Tuesdays. You can still use the automated pumps, which are available at all times, to put petrol in your car manually.

✓ There are two airports, Glafkos Clerides International Airport in Larnaca & Paphos International Airport. The nearest airport to fly to Ithaki House is Paphos International Airport.

✓ The majority of banks in Cyprus opening hours are: Monday to Thursday 8:00-14:30 and Friday 8:00-14:00.  Outside these hours you will only be able to use the ATM machines.

✓ Lunch reservations are generally made between 1-2pm and the evening meal at 9pm.

✓ Tipping is not compulsory in Cyprus, however it is customary  in a restaurant or bar to tip around  10% of the total bill

✓ The voltage on the island is 240 Socket outlets are of flat 3 pin-type (Ithaki House is furnished with adaptors

Cyprus enjoys an intense Mediterranean climate, with long dry summers from mid–May to mid–October, and mild winters from December to February. Summer is the season of warm temperatures with clear, blue cloudless skies.  Sea breezes in the costal areas create a pleasant atmosphere. The island enjoys abundant sunshine.
